Hogg's Honey Hole a nod to the bounties that can be found, or produced, at our family property located in Orton (just west of Erin). Myself, along with Alex and our 2 young boys, Weston and Arlen, have lived here since 2012, and within Erin for 4 years before that.
As an alumni and employee of the University of Guelph Ontario Agricultural College, I was fortunate to discover honey bees through the Honey Bee Research Centre. Inspired by their work and the challenges bees are facing, wondered what I could do to help pollinators at home. In 2020, and with the help of neighbors, we converted 4 acres of fallow land at the back of the property into pollinator meadow. A month later I started with 2 hives, which has now grown to many more. These bees flourish on a variety of pollen and nectar sources from the meadow, and beyond, producing a delightful wildflower honey.
The honey in these jars is minimally filtered, unpasteurized, and our liquid honey goes right from the hive to your table with no additional processing. Our creamed honey goes from raw honey through several stages of mixing with raw honey that's already crystallized to create a smooth firm and spreadable honey - creamed honey is just controlling how the honey crystallizes.
I hope you enjoy the honey as much as my family does, Shannon, Alex, Westen & Arlen
